English 101 Overview

  • In-coming Maryland freshmen fulfill their ENGL 101 requirement in their first year.
  • Freshmen Connection only offers ENGL 101.
  • Students with a TWSE score below 33 must take ENGL 101A, available in the spring semester.
  • Students for whom English is a second language should take ENGL 101X, available in the spring semester.

ENGL 101 Exemptions

Exemptions from the ENGL 101 requirement include:

  • Test Score
    • SAT verbal score (VE) 670 or above
    • AP score of 4 or 5 in English Language and Composition
  • Course Equivalency
