Parking

  • A University of Maryland parking permit is required to park in any numbered or lettered lot.
  • As an incoming freshman, your lot assignment will be either Lot 4 or Lot 6.

Shuttle-UM

  • Shuttle-UM provides transportation services to several private housing units in the College Park area. Information on the frequency, time, and location of pick-up/drop-off should be provided directly by the management of these units.
  • Shuttle-UM provides transportation services to Metro Stations and other locations in the College Park area.
  • Shuttle-UM provides services to many campus and off-campus locations well into the evening. Most of the shuttles can be picked up in front of Stamp Student Union.

  • Please note: Shuttle-UM does not travel to most locations on the weekends.

Other Forms of Evening Transportation

  • 24 Hour Campus Escort Service: University of Maryland Police Department provides an escort service for anyone who feels unsafe when walking across campus. Call 301-405-3555. The police campus escort service is available at all times.
  • NITE Ride: This service operates seven nights a week, 5:30 p.m. -7:30 a.m. For a listing of the service area, please click here or call 301-314-6483.

Other Transportation Services

The Washington Area Metropolitan Transit Authority provides bus and subway service (called Metro) in the College Park area.

Metro-Rail


The subway-rail system is another way for students to travel on the weekends either to campus or to Washington D.C.
  • Saturday and Sunday: trains operate every 10 minutes, beginning at 7 a.m. and stopping at 3 a.m. on Saturday and midnight on Sunday.
  • Shuttle-UM provides shuttle services to the College Park Metro Station on weekends during the fall and spring semesters, beginning at noon and stopping a 7:40 p.m.
