Credit Overview

The semester hour is the unit of credit. During summer sessions, a 3-credit course may meet five times a week for six weeks, with each class period meeting for 80 minutes. Courses that meet two or three times a week will have longer class sessions.

University of Maryland students who are pursuing a degree will be given credit toward the appropriate degree for satisfactory completion of summer courses. Each student is responsible for determining the applicability of courses selected to the degree program and is urged to consult with her or his academic advisor.

All students enrolled for credit will receive an official grade for each course.
