Disability Support Services

Individuals with a disability are eligible to receive the accommodations necessary to ensure equal access to campus programs. To receive these accommodations, you are required to register with the University of Maryland’s Disability Support Service (DSS) with your documentation.

Registered students receive DSS services by following these steps:

  1. Call DSS to schedule an appointment.
  2. Obtain documentation that verifies your disability (or have your doctor forward the information to DSS ahead of time).
    • Learning Disabilities, ADD, or ADHD: Psycho-educational or Neuropsychological Report
    • Psychological Disabilities: Click here to print the Psychological Disability Verification Form for your psychiatrist or therapist to complete.
    • Physical or Medical Conditions: Click here to print the Medical Verification Form for your physician to complete.
    • Other documentation: Division of Rehabilitation Services or the Social Security Administration may also provide documentation.
  3. DSS staff will review your documentation, discuss your needs, and complete a Classroom Accommodations Sheet for you to share with your instructors.
  4. Instructor meeting: You’ll need to meet with your instructors to explain your need for accommodations.
  5. Have the instructor contact DSS with any questions that you cannot answer.
