Academic Credit Overview

The semester hour is the unit of credit. During Winter Term, a 3-credit course may meet five times a week for three weeks, with each class period meeting for three and one-quarter hours. Courses that meet three or four times a week will have longer class sessions.

University of Maryland students who are pursuing a degree will be given credit toward the appropriate degree for satisfactory completion of course work. Each student is responsible for determining the applicability of courses selected to the degree program and is urged to consult with her or his academic advisor.

All students enrolled for credit will receive an official grade for each course.
